What is a Pronoun?

A pronoun is a short word we use instead of a name or a noun. It helps us speak smoothly without repeating the same words over and over. For example, instead of saying, "David is happy. David is reading," we say, "David is happy. He is reading."

The Big Four: I, You, He, She

Here are the most common singular pronouns you need to know:

• I: Use "I" when you are talking about yourself. (Always capitalize the letter "I").
  Example: I am learning English.
• You: Use "You" when you are talking directly to the person listening to you.
  Example: You are a great student.
• He: Use "He" when you are talking about one boy or man.
  Example: He is my brother.
• She: Use "She" when you are talking about one girl or woman.
  Example: She is a doctor.
